Clinical Outcomes of Hip Arthroscopy in Radiographically Diagnosed Retroverted Acetabula
Authors: Hartigan DE, Perets I, Walsh JP, Close MR, Domb BG
Purpose
To evaluate arthroscopic treatment outcomes in patients with acetabular retroversion.
Methods
Prospective cohort (82 hips) with pre/post-op PROs and imaging data at ≥2-year follow-up.
Key Findings
- Significant improvements in pain and function.
- Low complication rate; only one patient progressed to THA.
- No radiographic OA progression.
Conclusions
Arthroscopy can effectively manage FAI in retroverted acetabula with good safety and functional results.
What Does This Mean for Providers?
- Hip arthroscopy can be safely offered to well-selected retroversion patients.
- Thorough imaging and preoperative planning are essential to avoid under- or over-correction.
- Attention to rim trimming and capsular management is critical to avoid iatrogenic instability.
